Yusuf, a devoted husband, father of five, and proud grandfather, brings a deep-rooted commitment to serving Woolwich Township. Born to middle-class civil servant parents, Yusuf's upbringing instilled in him the values of hard work, resilience, and community engagement. His father was a Philadelphia fireman who rose to lieutenant before medically retiring from a significant life-threatening fire scene accident, then retired again as an NJ Department of the Treasury Tax Auditor. His mother was a Philadelphia City Hall Clerk who retired from SEPTA as an Executive Assistant. His mother also spent most of her adult life as an election poll worker.
Raised in the vibrant neighborhoods of Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs until 10th grade, Yusuf's journey led him to call Logan Township (Beckett) home. After graduating from Kingsway Regional High School, Yusuf enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving for four years on Active-Duty, with three years stationed at Yokota Air Base in Japan and a further five years in the Air Force Reserves, assigned to Andrews Air Force Base, MD, and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons, Belgium.
After the Air Force, Yusuf embarked on a successful career in the computer field. He spent several years working in the Washington D.C. area, mainly involved in work for the Department of Defense, three-letter agencies, and the White House. He also spent decades working abroad as a contractor for various Department of Defense programs in Belgium, Germany, and Bahrain.
Since settling in Woolwich Township in 2012, Yusuf has been a resident and a leader in our community. He has immersed himself in local initiatives, serving as the Deputy Executive Director of H.E.L.P, Inc., a trusted nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of our residents. Additionally, he proudly holds the position of Trustee within the Greater Swedesboro Business Association, contributing to the economic vitality of our region. These leadership roles demonstrate Yusuf's ability to advocate for our community's needs effectively.
Yusuf's dedication extends beyond professional endeavors; he is deeply involved in youth sports as a Soccer Coach with the Swedesboro Woolwich Soccer Association, fostering a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie among our young athletes.
Yusuf cherishes time with his family and friends outside his civic engagements, interacting with new acquaintances, and listening to good music (live when possible). An avid sports enthusiast, he rallies behind our local teams, supporting the Sixers, Eagles, and Union with unwavering enthusiasm.
With a passion for community, a heart for service, and a commitment to Woolwich Township's well-being, Yusuf stands ready to advocate for the needs and aspirations of our residents. Together, let's build a brighter future for our beloved community under Yusuf's steadfast leadership.
